YLNI - Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana

Here’s the Thing…

Generation X. Do you remember the debate that led to our generational label? According to the experts, there was nothing we really cared about, nothing that defined us, no “greatest generation” for us. Hence, the “x.” The generic generation that doesn’t give a crap.

Hmmm. Experts, meet YLNI.

It’s a happenin’ organization of 20- and 30- somethings who do care. We care about our community, about our voice and about our impact. Yeah, we can throw a swinging party (and we do), but YLNI is more than a cocktail hour. It’s a movement to celebrate what our community is and to make it the place we want it to be. Intrigued? Browse around to find out more.

Upcoming YLNI Events
Below is a list of upcoming events.  For more information on a specific event or meeting, please see the calendar above or the "What's Going On" page for details and RSVP information.

YLNI the VOTE

It's back!  Last year, YLNI made a splash during the city elections with the now-famous YLNI the VOTE. This year it's going to be bigger and better, but only with your help.

We need to get started very soon, so the first YLNI the VOTE meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 9, location to be determined.
YLNIers of all political stripes are welcome to participate. This is a non-partisan event where voices from across the political spectrum can be involved including those who have been volunteering on campaigns since before they could vote and those who have been recently inspired.

Planning to attend or need more information? Contact Rachel Blakeman at rachel@ylni.org.

Proud Mary Music Fest

The planning committee will be meeting Thursday, July 10th at 5:45 pm at 816 S. Calhoun Street (Pint & Slice, upstairs).

This meeting will be organizational in nature.  We will be creating a task list and (hopefully) assigning people to each task.

If you are interested in helping plan this Spring 2009 event but are unable to attend this meeting, please let heathers@ylni.org know.

Three Rivers Festival Bed Race
You can still "Get Involved"!  You can volunteer simply by emailing downtown@ylni.org or better yet, get your company to sponsor a team.  Entry is ONLY $50 per bed.  Teams can register at http://trfonline.org/apps.html.

The Bed Race will take place on Wednesday, July 16th in Downtown Fort Wayne with registration beginning around 6:00 or 6:30 pm.  The beds will be judged around 6:45pm, and the race starts at 7:00 pm.

This is a great opportunity to give your business visibility and it's tons of fun for all!

SportsFANatics on Deck

Sports FANatics invites you to join us on Monday, July 14, 2008 to help cheer on the Fort Wayne Wizards as they play the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.  We will be viewing the game from the deck, courtesy of the Wizards.

This event is open to all so bring the whole family or some friends for an evening of fun and networking!

Tickets are only $7 and $1 hot dogs, soft drinks, and beer will be available at the stadium.  Paid YLNI members will be eligible for door prizes as well.  Ticket orders must be received by Friday July 11.

Ticket order form can be found by clicking here.  For questions, contact Patrick Ventura at 260.407.2817 or pventura@fortwaynewizards.com.

Barr Street Market coming back for 2008!

Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana (YLNI) in partnership with the History Center is pleased to offer another summer of farmer's market products with extended dates and more choices!

The market begins July 12 and runs every Saturday through September, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the corner of Wayne and Barr streets.  Free parking will be available in the History Center parking lot along Berry Street.  Bikers are encouraged to park at a corral in the market.

With the return of requested vendors, such as Country Garden and Farm, Bakers Acres, Hardy's Farm Market, Graber's, Maples Acres, Canal Junction Farmstead Cheese, Susan Lobert, Hilger's, and VanDolah, a variety of farm products will be available in addition to newcomers to the market.  These farm vendors will offer a range of fresh produce, including fruits and vegetables, cheeses, baked goods, maple syrups, honey, apple and pear butters, spices/herbs and apple cider.  Breads and baked goods will be offered by Celebrations, Espresso Gallery and the North Anthony Health Food Shoppe.
To complete the picture of a farmer's market, other non-food vendors will be represented at the market that will include products such as jewelry, soaps and lotions, sewn handbags and children's clothing and pottery.

Accompanying each Saturday morning will be acoustic entertainment as well as a hands-on activity table for children each week, sponsored by the Allen County Public Library Children's Services and WMEE.  The full schedule of children's activities and entertainment can be found at ylni.org.
The following sponsors that will make the 2008 YLNI Barr Street Market a reality are:
Carson Boxberger, Swiss Re, Gouloff-Jordan Surveying and Design, Chase, Nipsco, The History Center, Midwest Pipe & Steel, DataPrint Initiatives, Allen County Public Library and WMEE.

Hot Spots Need You!

After taking a short summer break, the Hot Spot Task Force will be meeting to get back to planning Hot Spots for this fall.

Come join us on Thursday, July 24th at 5:30 at Mad Anthony Brewing Company on Taylor & Broadway.  Mark the date on your calendar and come ready with new, fresh ideas for our Hot Spots!  We want your ideas, combined with the Social Committee Survey results, to make this networking event even better than before.  See you there.

Any questions?  Please contact social@ylni.org.

Save the Date: YLNI Picnic

The Sports FANatics want you to save the date. A picnic type event is being planned for August 1, 2008 from 5-8pm at Fort Wayne Outfitters and Bike Depot. Mark your calendar and look for more information in future weekly emails.
